Page builder or custom website?

Drag-and-drop builders promise a website in an afternoon. Sometimes that is the right call. Here is an honest comparison from someone who builds custom sites.

Page Builder or Custom Website

Page builders like Wix, Squarespace and the many WordPress builders have made websites far more accessible. I build custom sites for a living, and I still recommend a builder to some people.

A page builder makes sense if

  • You enjoy tinkering and have time to learn the tool
  • Your budget is very small and a template looks good enough
  • You need an online shop with hundreds of products on day one

A custom site makes sense if

  • You want the site to look like your business, not like the template
  • Speed and search ranking matter to you
  • You would rather spend your time running the business
  • You want to edit content without breaking the layout

The hidden costs of builders

Monthly plans add up, premium templates and plugins cost extra, and moving away later can mean starting over. Builders also load a lot of code on every page, which makes sites slower than they need to be.

What “custom” means with me

Custom does not mean slow or expensive. I design your site from scratch, build it on a modern framework and give you a simple control panel for the things you change often: text, photos, prices and opening hours. It is live in two days, at a fixed price.
